Therapy/Recovery Tools

Proactive’s Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Therapy (EPAT) application is a proven treatment option for clients suffering chronic pain along with pain-related symptoms such as limited mobility, high stress and poor sleep. Acoustic waves are transferred into the tissue via an applicator. These high-energy acoustic waves accelerate tissue repair and new cell growth while also restoring mobility and providing an analgesic effect. EPAT is appropriate in the rehabilitation/recovery of most orthopedic injuries as well as incidents of chronic pain and limited mobility.

The Edge: EPAT treatment works by producing microtrauma that accelerates the healing process. As such, it does produce a noticeable sensation during treatment. We take great care to ensure any treatment never exceeds the client’s point of comfort.

Kinesiology Taping

Proactive’s skilled Performance Therapists utilize kinesiology taping to support a range of performance and recovery-related outcomes. Kinesiology tape (or KT tape) is a therapeutic tape featuring a blend of cotton and nylon that’s strategically applied to the body to provide support, lessen pain, reduce swelling and improve performance. KT tape slightly recoils upon application, gently lifting the skin on and around the target area. This is believed to facilitate reduced pain and enhanced blood flow.

The Edge: KT tape is designed to mimic the skin’s natural elasticity which allows the wearer to retain their full range of motion. Medical-grade adhesive keeps KT tape in place for several days after application, even amidst showers and intense workouts.

Med4 Elite™ Multi-Modality Therapy Unit by Game Ready®

The Med4 Elite™ by Game Ready® seamlessly combines the proven recovery techniques of active compression, cryotherapy, thermotherapy and rapid contrast in a single device. The Med4 Elite not only produces temperatures between 38-113° F to slow/accelerate blood circulation, but can also alternate between cryo- and thermother-apy in under a minute to deliver rapid contrast therapy. Meanwhile, active intermittent pneumatic compression mimics natural muscle contractions to help alleviate swelling and increase oxygenated blood flow to the target area.

The Edge: Intermittent pneumatic compression has been found to be most effective when combined with cryotherapy. The Med4 Elite allows the Proactive Team to deliver both modalities simultaneously at the touch of a button.

The Neuro-bio-electric (Neubie) stimulator is an electrical stimulation device that delivers exciting new methods of neuromuscular re-education. Combined with the NeuFit System, the Neubie uses pulsed direct current to re-educate muscles, increase blood flow, improve range of motion, prevent atrophy, decrease spasms, relieve pain, and assist recovery from a variety of both acute and chronic injuries.

The Edge: True rehabilitation and high performance requires more than muscles that simply meet a superficial “eye test”. The Neubie works on a neurological level to help the body learn or re-learn how to efficiently fire the right muscles in the right sequence to achieve sustained health and high performance.

NuCalm® is the world’s only patented neuroscience technology clinically proven to resolve stress and improve sleep quality without drugs. NuCalm promotes deep, restorative relaxation by addressing brain circuity in the limbic system, the hypothalamus and the brain stem. A small Biosignal Processing Disc placed on the wrist paired with a mobile app and your preferred pair of headphones are all you need to get started. Within moments of application, you’ll begin to feel relief from the ‘fight-or-flight’ sympathetic nervous system response and your cortisol levels will decline as the HPA axis is inhibited. Benefits include improved sleep, enhanced recovery and reduced stress.

The Edge: NuCalm’s technology is used by some of the world’s most high-performing teams — including the U.S. Military, the FBI, and 49 different professional sports organizations.

Pulse X™ PEMF by Pulse Centers

The Pulse X™ by Pulse Centers delivers natural, non-invasive PEMF therapy to support healing and overall wellness. Therapeutic PEMF, or pulsed electro-magnetic field technology, has been found to decrease pain, swelling and inflammation while increasing circulation, cellular metabolism and subjective reports of energy. While the exact mechanisms behind PEMF’s benefits are still being researched, it’s believed to increase intracellular calcium and nitric oxide release, which is helpful in healing injured tissue. Users often report feeling relaxed during a PEMF session and energized afterwards.

The Edge: While PEMF technology can help the healing process and assist with exercise-related muscle fatigue and discomfort, it’s also a fantastic method for addressing general stress and lethargy.

Red and Near Infrared Light Therapy

Red light and near infrared light share many of the same qualities and therapeutic benefits — both are non-invasive, painless, and aid in recovery and quality of life. Proactive’s red light therapy is delivered as a visible red light with a specific wavelength of 660 nm. It is extremely effective for penetrating the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Our near infrared light therapy, meanwhile, is delivered as a non-visible light with a specific wavelength of 850 nm. This additional wavelength allows near infrared light to penetrate beyond the subcutaneous tissues into muscle, bone and interior organs.

The Edge: Proactive’s light therapy tools allow clients to easily receive the benefits of both red and near infrared light therapy simultaneously.

Theragun percussive massage therapy tools are a breakthrough in the treatment of soft tissue pain and soreness. Theragun devices, which can be self-administered or directed with the help of our Performance Team, deliver strong, rapid pulses in a short duration to enhance muscle recovery, release stress and tension, and soothe discomfort. This percussive massage therapy can be utilized pre-, mid-, and post-workout. Theragun devices’ incredible ease-of-use and high portability makes them a favorite among Proactive clients

The Edge: With a 16 mm amplitude, the Theragun reaches 60% deeper into muscles than the average hand-held massager.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Proactive’s therapeutic ultrasound application utilizes a vibrating implement that sends sound waves through the skin and into the body. These waves cause the underlying tissue to vibrate, which can have a variety of therapeutic benefits. We utilize two types of ultrasound with clients — thermal ultrasound therapy and mechanical ultra-sound therapy. Thermal ultrasound therapy uses a more continuous transmission of sound waves, which causes microscopic vibrations in deep tissue molecules that ultimately enhance cellular metabolism. Mechanical ultrasound therapy uses a pulse-like emission that elicits the expansion/contraction of tiny gas bubbles in soft tissues, decreasing the inflammatory response and reducing swelling/pain.

The Edge: The benefits of therapeutic ultrasound extend far beyond heating and relaxing muscles, as it’s also been found to be effective for breaking down scar tissue, encouraging bone repair, and reducing tendinitis and arthritis-related pain.

ThermoTeK Tecar Therapy

ThermoTek Tecar Therapy produces deep heating through high-frequency electrotherapy. In contrast to direct or low-frequency currents, high-frequency currents have the ability to penetrate superficial skin layers without energy loss. This produces a ‘deep heat’ that relaxes the muscle, alleviates pain and increases oxygenation and blood circulation. High-frequency electrotherapy can be used for the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries including muscles, tendons, bones and joints.

The Edge: While ThermoTek’s high-frequency electrotherapy produces a deep heat within the muscle, it does not heat the skin itself. This avoids concerns about skin irritation and allows for multiple treatments over the course of a single day.
